Korean Netizens Criticize (G)I-DLE For A “Vulgar” Move In “Queencard”, But International Fans Come To The Group’s Defense

Opinions are pretty severely split between the two groups.

On May 15, (G)I-DLE released a special performance video of their latest title track, “Queencard”, from their new album I Feel.

The entire concept of “Queencard” is pretty fun and campy, with a wholesome message about loving your body just the way it is. With that sort of concept, it’s not surprising that the choreography for the song is a bit silly at some points! After all, how can anyone dance seriously to the lines “My boob and booty is hot” and “I’m twerking on the runway”?

However, not everyone is feeling the campy energy of the song. At around 2:35 in the performance video, Soyeon and Yuqi playfully grab their chest and butt respectively.

Though it only lasts for a moment, it was enough for some Korean netizens to complain about the “vulgarity” of the move.

The dance moves were shared on a popular online Korean forum, where comments from netizens were overall pretty critical and disapproving of them.

  • “Why are they touching that area….?”
  • “Ugh”
  • “Oof with the recent Hwasa clip too, what’s wrong with everybody? They’re saying everyone can be queens no matter how big or small you are, but is this what they mean by confidence..?”
  • “Who is queendongju?”
  • “Why are they like this? I’m embarrassed”
  • “For real, why are they being like this?”
  • “This is a dance they do on stage?”
  • “Uh, if they’re going to be like this, they should just have the title of being adult singers”
  • “I think they’re being like this because it’s in the lyrics”
  • “Why are they like this…”
  • “Is this for real?”

However, comments from international fans couldn’t be more different. On the same forum post, these comments were overwhelmingly in support of (G)I-DLE and what they chose to do with their choreography, even if it was a bit “cringy” to some.

There are also over 4,000 quote retweets to the tweet shared above of the moment from the performance video, and the majority of them seem to be in support of the K-Pop idols too.

For such a tiny part of a whole video, this moment sure did get a lot of virality online! But knowing the members of (G)I-DLE, we doubt that any criticism will really bother them too much, and hopefully they see all of the support they’re getting!
