Since their debut in 2018, (G)I-DLE have remained one of the iconic and defining girl groups of K-Pop’s fourth generation. The group’s uniqueness is easily seen in all aspects, from their music…

…to even their name.

The “G” in (G)I-DLE stands for girl, because in Korean, the group’s name is (여자)아이들 (yeoja aideul, which means “girl idol”. In past interviews, Soyeon shared that the G is silent to signify that they are more than the “girl” part of their identity as artists.

We came from a mindset that we do not want to conform to any kind of social boundary or prejudice.

Recently, netizens noticed a surprising change involving the group’s name!

On May 1, a change to (G)I-DLE’s social media accounts was quickly noticed. The G in their name was no longer there, and the actual username was also changed from @G_I_DLE to @official_i_dle.

A netizen also shared that an advertisement for their upcoming comeback also featured the “new” name.

With May 2 marking the group’s 7th anniversary, many are assuming that this is sparking a new era for the group!

As it turns out, it is sparking a new era for the group! Shortly after midnight, KST, the group announced their upcoming album will be called For (G), potentially a play on the word forget.

We can’t wait to see what this new era brings for idle!
