On March 14, Kim Hieora spoke with media outlet Wikitree regarding the hit K-Drama, The Glory.

The Glory is a drama that follows Moon Dong Eun (Song Hye Kyo) as she exacts revenge on her High School bullies. Kim Hieora plays the role of Lee Sa Ra, one of Moon Dong Eun’s bullies. In the drama, Lee Sa Ra is shown as a complex character who is an artist, a drug addict, and the daughter of a pastor.

Kim Hieora, who had previously gone viral for playing a role in Extraordinary Attorney Woo, has gained immense popularity for her acting in the series. The actress has been praised for convincingly playing someone who struggles with drug addiction.

In the interview, the actress revealed insight into what she felt about her character and her character’s affinity for art.

Art is an exit for Sa Ra. Sa Ra has done drugs since she was very young, so she probably never thought she needed to change. In that case, her paintings were probably the only way she could communicate. When I see her, unlike Yeon Jin or Hye Jeong, who has a goal, she doesn’t have any wants or direction, and in that sense, she is very ambiguous and is kind of in a dream-like state. Because of this, rather than having the desire to accomplish anything, I think she would express an unknowing struggle within herself through her art.

Kim Hieora is also a passionate artist and has even held exhibitions of her own. The actress, however, was very humble about her art while explaining that art was therapeutic for her.

I am an amateur. I do it as if I’m just doodling. I am someone who is very bright and energetic, but when I have a problem or if I am depressed, I don’t want to give it to someone else. So since I was young, whenever I felt these emotions, I would draw and write. People say when they see my art, they feel a strong sense of emotions. An art professor once told me after looking at my art that, they felt a sharp emotion and that it seemed like I was performing as an artist. The professor didn’t know I was an actress. Although I wasn’t there, I thought their feedback was interesting.

Kim Hieora then revealed that her friend had once cried after seeing her art. It’s reported that the actress shed tears while reminiscing about the incident.

As I said, I don’t really tell my friends if I am going through a hard time. One of my friends who saw my art started crying her eyes out and said, ‘Hieora, you’ve gone through so much. I’m sure it was so hard for you.’

Kim Hieora then revealed that the friend who had consoled her was none other than actress Jung Ga Hee who played the role of Park Yeon Jin’s (played by Lim Ji Yeon) hoobae, Sumi, in the drama.

Kim Hieora stated that the interaction with Jung Ga Hee made her realize the positive influence art has had in her life.

It was then that I accepted it. Seeing how someone, after seeing my art, consoled me by saying, ‘Hieora, you’ve been through so much,’ I started painting with the understanding that art could positively influence my life. When my friend hugged me, I was like, ‘Hey, it’s nothing like that,’ but I was crying with her. It was so funny that we took a selfie while crying.
