Go Ara Helps Underprivileged Children on Road for Hope
Go Ara traveled to Zambia in order to film for Road for Hope where she was touched immensely.
On December 19, 2016, Go Ara will be on KBS 1TV’s 2016 희망로드 대장정 (Road for Hope) where the team will travel to Zambia.
Road for Hope started in 2010. Ever since then, the Road for Hope team travels to underprivileged countries in order to help them.
Currently, Zambia’s resources are depleting because the country is constantly going from drought to flood. This has been going on for several years. Adults who are unable to farm are leaving their homes for neighboring countries around South Africa. Due to loss of contact or the death of their parents, there are currently 1.4 million orphans in Zambia. In addition, 40.6% of the child laborers are orphans!
Go Ara was tremendously shocked when she watched children burning charcoal and rushing barefoot through fire. There were also children working at the lake for 500 won (50 cents) a day. She revealed, “I can’t believe this is the reality. Why do helpless children have to suffer like this?”
However, Go Ara was especially taken aback when she saw a young boy (12 years old) who wandered the brick factory with water-borne diseases while carrying his younger sibling. She wanted to teach the children about loving themselves. In order to do so, she prepared the children’s first ever birthday party!
At the end of Go Ara’s trip, the children thanked her and told her that they loved her. These touching words left Go Ara in tears.
