The Hottest Teen K-Drama “Dream High” Is Now A Musical — Here Are The K-Pop Idols Cast For Each Role
In 2011, KBS‘s hottest K-Drama, Dream High, took the world by storm with its cast of talented and popular K-Pop idols—and twelve years later, it is being released as a musical.
Dream High is a story about aspiring K-Pop star students attending the most prestigious music school. Just as the story’s characters approached their musical goals, the K-Pop idols who portrayed them also launched into greater success after the show. Top stars like Miss A‘s Suzy, IU, and Kim Soo Hyun got their start in this show, which helped escalate their popularity.
Many people, especially teens, loved the K-Drama, and it is now a show musical set to be released in May. Produced by ARTONE Company, the musical’s cast contains an impressive number of notable K-Pop idols.
Here is each Dream High character and its original K-Drama actor alongside the new actor or idol who will play them in the musical.
Song Sam Dong
Song Sam Dong is a poor country bumpkin music prodigy with messy hair and a “tacky” name who somehow enters the highly competitive Kirin High School. He is played by the actor Kim Soo Hyun, famous for his roles in You Who Came From The Stars, Moon Embracing the Sun, It’s Okay Not To Be Okay, and more.
The musical production of Dream High has three actors who will play the role through a rotating system: WINNER‘s Lee Seung Hoon, SF9‘s Yoo Tae Yang, and actor Eum Moon Suk.
Jason
Jason is a Korean-American exchange student and talented dancer from the United States who joins the school because he wants to debut as a singer in Korea. He is played by 2PM‘s Jang Wooyoung.
Teen Top‘s Niel, ASTRO‘s JinJin, and rapper Gree will play Jason in the musical.
Yoon Baek Hee
Formerly best friends with Hye Mi, the main female protagonist, Yoon Baek Hee, is a shy but talented singer who later becomes enemies with her friend. Baek Hee is played by T-ARA‘s Eunjung.
In the musical, KARA‘s Gyuri, actor Lee Jae Ee and musical actress Pobaha.
Jin Guk
Jin Guk, whose real name is Hyun Shi Hyuk, is a talented rapper and dancer with a strained relationship with his politician father, who has not acknowledged him as a son. 2PM‘s Ok Taecyeon portrays Jin Guk in Dream High.
In the musical, INFINITE‘s Jang Dongwoo and musical actors Chu Yeon Sung and Jeon Hwi.
Go Hye Mi and Kim Pil Sook
Go Hye Mi was training to be an opera singer but was forced by a loan shark to join the highly competitive music school to train as a pop star and eventually pay off her father’s debts. Singer and actress Suzy made her acting debut by playing this role.
Kim Pil Sook, played by IU, is a talented musician with perfect pitch but was not taken seriously until she lost weight and dressed better.
The roles of Go Hye Mi and Kim Pil Sook were not represented in the cast introduction of Dream High, the musical. It is unsure if the actresses who will play them will be announced later or if the characters were taken out of the story in the musical.
Ticketing for the musical Dream High opened on April 5, and the first performance is set to be on May 13.
