HYBE Girl Group’s “Underwear” Outfits Hit With Scathing Backlash

“Panty with a belt.”

KATSEYE‘s Coachella run has been one controversy after another. First, their live vocals drew attention, then Manon’s absence on stage but presence in other artists’ sets, and now their outfits.

The HYBE x GEFFEN girl group performed at the festival over the past two weekends, and even their own fans were quick to call out their styling.

The outfits in question featured bra-style tops, corsets, and high-cut bottoms in nude and pink tones, paired with feather accessories, knee-high boots, and mini skirts. The overall look drew heavily from lingerie aesthetics, which is exactly what fuelled the backlash.

I really wish everyone could see that performing in outfits that look like underwear is, setting everything else aside, genuinely tacky.

Many felt the looks were overtly sexualising, with some comparing the outfits to underwear.

Others pointed out that beyond the sexualisation debate, the pieces simply weren’t aesthetically strong, arguing that the members are beautiful and deserve much better.

It’s not the first time HYBE x GEFFEN have faced this kind of criticism, and some feel the label keeps getting away with it because it’s become so normalized in the industry.
