I-DLE Accused Of “Shamelessly” Plagiarizing Red Velvet’s Seulgi

Many similarities have been pointed out.

Since dropping the “G” from their name, Cube Entertainment girl group I-DLE has faced a series of controversies. Their most recent comeback teasers have sparked even more heated reactions, this time triggering plagiarism accusations.

I-DLE made waves earlier this month when they released a special album containing five-member versions of their old title tracks, with former member Soojin’s parts removed from each track. Some fans and netizens were quick to criticise the controversial move, claiming it felt unnecessary, disrespectful, and that the group should stop bringing the former member — who now has launched her own solo career — up.

Now, attention has turned to their teaser images for the upcoming album release, We Are. This set of teasers, too, has sparked criticism as fans accuse the group of “shamelessly” copying Red Velvet Seulgi’s concept for her first solo comeback with Accidentally, On Purpose.

In Minnie’s teasers, she’s seen wearing a blue fur jacket with dark, wavy hair, bold makeup, and pointed heels — a look many say mirrors Seulgi’s styling from her solo promotions.

The overall mood and aesthetic, described as soft-grunge, also aligns with the tone Seulgi embraced during her comeback.

One particular shot of Minnie standing under green lighting has drawn strong comparisons to a similar teaser photo from Seulgi.

Soyeon’s teasers have also raised eyebrows. She’s photographed around a car, both inside and outside, wearing a pink scarf — a setting and styling that closely echo Seulgi’s own car-themed teaser images, where she wore pink fur sleeves.

While some fans believe I-DLE’s visuals are too similar to be coincidental, others argue it’s more a case of inspiration rather than direct copying. Still, the backlash is growing.

As debate continues online, fans await the full release of We Are to see whether the rest of the comeback further fuels or quiets the criticism.
