He was first diagnosed with “bipolar disorder” in 2011 at a university hospital and has continued to respond to all examination requests by the administration before ultimately being graded ineligible for active service.

His label had not initially disclosed the details to Jang Geun Suk’s health issues as it was deemed a private matter of the star, but decided that it was also their duty to disclose the general facts to fans nonetheless.

“Details of his health condition are a private matter and we are very cautious about revealing the information.

However, we are well aware of the fact that Jang Geun Suk has come this far thanks to the support of his fans. As a result, even if it is a private matter, we believed it was the right thing to take responsibility and clearly reveal the facts to the public.”

The company originally planned to for the actor to serve his mandatory military service quietly as to avoid chaos or trouble, but complied with Jang Geun Suk’s request to announce the news to his fans himself.

“We were planning to send Jang Geun Suk to his service quietly to avoid causing trouble for many people due to chaos on the day of his entry, but he expressed that he’d like to announce the news to his fans who have stayed with him for the past 27 years.

We respected his request and posted an announcement on his homepage before making the official announcement, which is why it was delayed.”
