Last year, a private security guard and a security company were fined for their excessive security measures at Incheon International Airport for actor Byeon Woo Seok. The court also reprimanded Byun for publicly holding his schedule at the airport.
Byeon Woo Seok’s Team Gets Criticized For “Over-The-Top” Security
On October 2, judge Shin Heung Ho announced that they had sentenced the bodyguard and security company, who were indicted for violating the Security Service Act, to a fine of 1,000,000 KRW ($~713.57 USD) each.
Last year, they were indicted on charges of engaging in acts beyond the scope of security duties, such as displaying force or using physical force against other passengers while protecting Byeon Woo Seok.
At the time, Byeon Woo Seok was using Incheon Airport for his departure, and a large crowd began to form. Private security controlled the gates, which sparked controversy as the guards used flashlights on other passengers, inspected airline tickets, and prevented them from using the airport lounge.
Judge Shin stated, “Shining a light constitutes an exercise of physical force and does not fall within the scope of security duties.”
Judge Shin also had a few words aimed at Byeon Woo Seok.
The person under protection (Byeon Woo Seok) did not use the airport secretly to avoid the people chasing him, but carried out his schedule openly. If (his actions at the time) were intended to prevent the security guard from filming, they could have kept his schedule a secret, covered his face with a hat and mask, and moved to a place without people. Instead, he exposed their schedule and moved the crowded area like a ‘fan meeting’.

Seeing this, K-Netizens revealed that this incident made them more disappointed in him.

- “What, now he’s cosplaying as the victim LOL.”
- “Thank goodness a precedent has been set.”
- “Ever since then, I’ve disliked him. Seeing him act like that, I was dumbfounded, seeing fans proudly say how much he loves them, regardless of what the security guards said.”
- “Blocking the doors was annoying, and this wasn’t like a fan meeting, but more like he was the king and the airport passengers were treated like idiots who shouldn’t even look at him. The flashlights they used were really horrible.”
- “Totally ridiculous…but was overshadowed by his large fan base.”
- “Without a single word of apology or feedback, they just call the security company and pretend to be the victim, making both the celebrity and agency look bad.
