Kim Sejeong Refused To Become Closer Friends With IU—But For A Surprisingly Good Reason
Kim Sejeong may be a superstar in her own right, but it is no secret that she’s a huge fan of another singer—IU! The two soloists met up during the filming of IU’s Palette.
During the interview portion, it was revealed that Sejeong once turned down an opportunity to meet up with IU despite being a huge fan. It started when she asked her former Gugudan member, Mina, to reach out to her Hotel Del Luna co-worker for her.
I received a text message through Mina. Unnie, Sejeong wants me to ask you this. I received a long text message. I remember it was about this. ‘What do you think when you record your songs at the studio?’ I replied, ‘Mina, let’s get together. I’ll treat you to dinner, let’s have a talk! Why don’t you fix the time?’

It turned out that Sejeong, through Mina, declined the invitation to have a meal with IU and thus get closer. She did this precisely so they could maintain a pleasant professional relationship.
However, Sejeong, you said, you want to maintain the distance. You said you want to maintain the distance rather than becoming close.

IU was not hurt at all by this fact. Rather, she said that she understood Sejeong’s intentions, knowing right away that the younger girl held her in high regard and was simply afraid of ruining the image she built up of her.

Sejeong agreed with this insight. She added that she was afraid of becoming overly excited as a long-time fangirl of IU.

There were more reasons why she decided that it was not good to meet IU in a more casual setting. Namely, she did not want to hassle the other singer anymore than she already had.
