On February 6, EJAE shared a snippet of her single “Time After Time,” marking her latest step as a solo artist. However, instead of excitement, the preview quickly sparked harsh reactions.

International netizens criticized her vocals, questioning her tone, technique, and overall appeal as a performer. Some went as far as revisiting her past trainee history, arguing that the song highlighted why she never officially debuted under a major K-Pop label.

Beyond criticism of her singing, the release also reignited controversy surrounding EJAE’s past comments about K-Pop music. Previously, she had spoken critically about the increasing use of English lyrics in K-pop songs, emphasizing that Korean artists should prioritize singing in Korean. This made the backlash stronger when fans noticed that the released snippet of “Time After Time” was entirely in English.

EJAE’s previous solo release after KPop Demon Hunters also faces similar criticism.
