Liberating Or Inappropriate? Korean Netizens Concerned About The Underwear “Trend” In K-Pop

Opinions are mixed.

A fashion trend has been making a more frequent appearance in K-Pop lately that has some concerned over the impact it might have on young fans. It’s being deemed the “underwear” or “pantsless” trend, and it seems that some Korean netizens aren’t too keen on the fashion style.

One of the most well-known instances of this trend is when LE SSERAFIM‘s Yunjin recently wore a white bralette and gray panties under an oversized pink coat in the group’s teaser video for their upcoming album.

Finally, the two members of SISTAR19 — Hyolyn and Bora — also embraced the trend for their recent comeback with “No More (Ma Boy)”. They were styled in bralette tops and extremely short-cut shorts that look like underwear.

This recent sudden influx of idols sporting the “underwear” or “pantsless” trend sparked a debate online, which was recently discussed in an article about the topic.

Translation: Netizens shared negative sentiments like, “It’s not cool to walk around in your underwear,” “I’m worried that teenagers will want to copy this trend,” “This feels like a forced trend to me,” and “It makes me uncomfortable to just look at.”

On the other hand, some highlighted the positive effects, such as, “They’re expressing their freedom to dress however they’d like,” and “It’s good to see people stand up for themselves against judgment and prejudice.”

The “pantsless look” has become popular in the world of fashion since last year. In Hollywood, American celebrities like Anne Hathaway, Hailey Bieber, and Kim Kardashian have tried the trend and received tremendous attention. #NoPants #PantsLess #MissingPantsForFashion
