LE SSERAFIM's Chaewon Has A Unique Trait That HYBE Noticed, And It's Why They Chose Her To Be The Group's Leader

LE SSERAFIM is one of the hottest rising girl groups at the moment. Consisting of Yunjin, Chaewon, Sakura, Eunchae, and Kazuha, they are known for their great music, visuals, and close bond despite not training together.

Out of everyone, one of the members who notably always makes an effort to unite the group is Chaewon, the leader of LE SSERAFIM.

She was given this role after proving herself at a company-organized workshop. The girl group had traveled to a small seaside town in Episode 4 of “The World is My Oyster,” their newest documentary. It was an opportunity for them to grow closer in a casual environment, and they also presumably held exercises where the company learned more about the members and their personalities.

After this workshop, they were asked to meet with the higher-ups of HYBE and Source Music to listen to a special announcement.

The Lead Artist Management, Kim Hyung Eun, revealed the news right away. The planning team had mutually decided to give Chaewon the title of “leader” after seeing her clever retorts during the workshop. Because she could think quickly on her feet, they decided that she would fit the role best as she could be an appropriate spokesperson.

I mentioned this to all of you at the workshop. We talked briefly about the team leader. Chaewon responded faster than we expected so we decided it’ll be Chaewon.

They made it official by saying, “As of today, Chaewon is officially the leader of LE SSERAFIM. Thank you, Chaewon. Do you want to say a few words?”

As expected of a proper leader, she immediately established that the group’s relationship would not change just because of her new title. She emphasized the fact that she wanted to be treated the exact same way—as a friend.

Nothing changes just because I’m the leader. I prefer that we all speak our opinions and work as a team together like usual. Treat me like you always have. Thank you.

In a separate interview, Chaewon expounded on how she originally saw it as a challenge to be LE SSERAFIM’s leader given that she grew up as the youngest in her family. This changed when the company saw her natural inclination to guide those younger than her.

I used to be the kind of person who did whatever other people told me to do and just took things as they came to me but now there are many younger people with me and I have all this accumulated experience so I was leading without even realizing it.

When we practice for live performances, I tell them how to put on their mics and how the procedure will go, or [Sakura] and I will tell them a bunch of little things so that they will be ready for the real thing.
