Finally, after months of anticipation, HYBE unveiled their very first girl group, LE SSERAFIM.
The group made up of Kim Chaewon, Sakura, Huh Yunjin, Kazuha, Kim Garam, and Hong Eun Chae held their debut showcase on May 2 at Jangchung Municipal Stadium in Jungu, Seoul.
Named as an anagram of I’M FEARLESS, the much-discussed name represents the ladies’ will not to fear the public eye and be courageous in their march to the top.
During the showcase, Huh Yunjin shared her thoughts on the group’s name.
As soon as I heard the name, I thought it was very classy. It was weirdly emotional. I remember getting chills and a little teary-eyed.

Japanese member Kazuha revealed the origin of the group’s name.
LE SSERAFIM is also special because it was named by Bang Si Hyuk PD. He was the one who came up with the idea to use an anagram of I’M FEARLESS.

The member also revealed that it wasn’t an easy decision for her to leave ballet after 15 years and that she and her group members had many honest conversations.
When asked what the ’emotions’ of LE SSERAFIM are, Chaewon stated that it was too early to tell.
We are honestly just honored to be able to be contemporaries of the cool seniors already promoting. Because we just debuted, it is difficult to pinpoint and say, ‘These are our emotions.’ However, I do like that our thoughts and views of the world are reflected in our debut album.
