“Love Alarm Clap! Clap! Clap!” Faces Backlash For Allegedly Queerbaiting Audiences
Korean dating show Love Alarm CLAP! CLAP! CLAP! is under fire for allegedly queerbaiting audiences into believing the show matched its first lesbian couple. Queerbaiting is a harmful marketing ploy used in the entertainment industry in which creators hint at LGBTQ+ romance only to not deliver.
On February 3, a post titled “The Scene Where Jasmine Confesses To White Rose Was Falsesly Edited” had netizens enraged. The post shared a clip of dating show contestants Jasmine (moniker) and White Rose (moniker) together. In the clip, Jasmine is seen telling White Rose that she had feelings for Flower Deer (moniker), who is a male contestant.

The author of the post then states that the dating show had previously teased the episode by editing the clip to make it seem like the contestants had tearfully confirmed their feelings for one another before blindsiding audiences with the full clip during the episode.

The netizen further criticizes the dating show and the streaming platform for queerbaiting audiences. The netizen uploaded several examples of the show advertising itself by using the two dating contestants and putting them front and center.
Netizens were rightfully angry at the show when it was revealed that all of the teasers implicating the two dating contestants were all for naught.

Yeah, we are the dumb ones for expecting anything. Since last week all of White Rose and Jasmine’s scenes were in slow motion, and that caption saying 1 is the biggest number, LOL. They edited the scenes and played the audiences like fools. I saw that even Jasmine was getting cursed out on Instagram. Members of the production team are sons of b@tches.
