The Ministry Of Justice Have Made Their Decision Regarding The Reinvestigation Of Jang Ja Yeon’s Suicide Case
After a final report was submitted by the Investigative Team of Past Affairs, it was then up to the Ministry of Justice’s Committee of Past Affairs on whether or not they would recommend further re-investigation into Jang Ja Yeon’s suicide case.
The committee members had a week to read the 250-page report submitted by the team and they made their final decision on May 20th after a meeting. The report focused on whether a “Jang Ja Yeon list” existed, an alleged document containing a list of names of her abusers, whether the previous investigation was incomplete or mishandled and whether the newspaper the Chosun Ilbo had an effect on the investigation.
The investigative team uncovered some troubling details, they confirmed that Jang Ja Yeon was in an unfair contract with her agency that allowed her to be degraded to a certain extent by being forced to serve alcoholic drinks. They also found evidence of a mishandling of the original investigation as certain phone calls had been left out of the investigation records.
However, in terms of the sexual assault allegations, the investigative team found it very difficult to find sufficient evidence of these claims. The team was unable to come to a conclusion on the existence of “Jang Ja Yeon’s list” and whether or not the actress had been sexually assaulted through the use of drugs.
The Committee recommended that the former CEO of Jang Ja Yeon’s agency, Kim Jong Seung, should be re-investigated on the suspicion of false testimony. They also acknowledged the pressure put on the original investigation by the Chosun Ilbo and its leaders who were not investigated thoroughly enough. However, the Committee recommended against a re-investigation into the sexual assault charges as there isn’t sufficient enough evidence to prove these allegations. Finally, they could not confirm the existence of “Jang Ja Yeon’s list”, they say out of everyone interviewed only Yoon Ji Oh believes the list exists.
