The news came when the official NCT account posted the teaser image for Mark’s track—and immediately sent fans into absolute meltdown. The track is titled “Child,” and is due to be released on February 4, 2022.

The reaction from NCTzens was pretty much instant, with Mark trending on Twitter in various ways…

…including the aptly titled ‘MARK LEEE’ with a triple E…

…and with NCTzens themselves struggling to actually believe it is happening.

The news comes after Mark gave a solo dance performance at the 11th Gaon Chart Music Awards, where both of Mark’s units, NCT 127 and NCT DREAM, won awards. While the performance itself was not accompanied by an announcement, in hindsight fans are seeing it as a possible clue hinting at Mark’s upcoming solo venture.

And with some prominent names, such as the composer and producer of EXO Baekhyun‘s “UN Village,” posting about Mark’s “Child,” fans are further speculating that Mark could have collaborated with some exciting people in the industry on this track, making his debut even more highly anticipated!

But most importantly, fans are thankful that Mark is finally getting the opportunity to shine on his own, which is something that his talent has unquestionably merited.

After watching him juggle responsibilities in multiple groups, including SM Entertainment‘s monster group SuperM, it seems only right that we get to see Mark do something for himself, something that will let him show his own colors! Hopefully Mark knows how proud NCTzens are of how much he’s done.

The release of Mark’s “Child,” coupled with the full slate of ‘neo’ birthdays coming up in February, make this a super eventful month for fans, which almost feels like too much after NCT 127 had fans emotional with the win of their first ever grand prize at last month’s Seoul Music Awards. With NCT 127 and NCT DREAM’s most recent wins added to that, NCTzens have a lot to celebrate now! Congratulations to the units of NCT, and a special congratulations to NCT’s pillar, Mark Lee, on his solo debut! This could not be more well-deserved.
