Mark, known as one of the busiest members of the group due to his participation in multiple units, has seen an increase in individual activities this year, specifically with brand deals.

Most recently, it was revealed that Mark would be working with McDonald’s Korea and has so far appeared in posters and videos. A meal with photocards of the idol is also rumored to be part of this new brand deal.

However, McDonald’s is currently a target of pro-Palestine boycotts. Previously, news revealed that a McDonald’s franchise owner in Israel declared that the restaurants would be providing free meals to Israel Defense Forces (IDF) soldiers and Israeli hospitals. Newsweek claimed that the Israeli franchise has dedicated five stores to this initiative, donating over 100,000 meals.

As a result, though it is not an official boycott target according to the BDS (Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions) Movement, the organization has added it to its encouraged organic boycott targets.

Though McDonald’s repurchased the franchises in Israel, the company is still active in the region, leading to continued boycotts. Additionally, McDonald’s Korea, though not directly franchised to the corporation, still has revenue paid to the McDonald’s Corporation as royalties through its current partner, Al Mana.

As a result, fans called out the idol for his involvement with the brand, which has grown to include boycotts. The idol has also seen a significant loss in followers following the initial announcement.

On his Instagram account, Mark lost around 84,400 followers in two days. Before the campaign was formally announced, there were rumors of his partnership with the brand, meaning there were smaller decreases that add to the overall total.

The group accounts have also seen smaller decreases in following, with the NCT DREAM official account losing just under 4,000 and NCT 127‘s losing a little over 2,100.

This does not account for any lost on X and other platform, where protests have been vocal.
