How “Single’s Inferno 4” Producers Chose The Cast For Their Most Authentic Season Yet
Now that the fourth season of Single’s Inferno has ended, the producers are giving viewers a peek behind the curtain. In an interview, producers Kim Jae Won, Kim Jung Hyun, and Park Su Ji revealed details about the casting process.

For Season 4, over 500 candidates were interviewed. Park said that since all of the producers have their own “distinct preferences,” they chose cast members after they reached “a majority consensus.” “We have intense discussions,” she explained, “where we appeal to each other and share what we like about potential candidates.”

In addition to looking for candidates with the right appeal, the producers valued authenticity. According to Kim, Single’s Inferno’s popularity has made the casting process easier in some ways and more challenging in others. The producers wanted candidates who were genuinely looking for love rather than trying to get their 15 minutes of fame.

Dating programs are supposed to help you find love, but [some people] try to find things that are other than love through the show, because it gives you so much fame.

Viewers’ opinions on Single’s Inferno 4 are mixed, but Kim feels that it’s the best season yet.

In terms of authenticity, I think this season was the best. It’s not that previous seasons weren’t, but this time there seemed to be more realistic considerations (from cast members).
Rather than just focusing on relationships within the show, they were thinking about how [their relationships] would work in real life … these were the kind of realistic concerns that people actually face when dating someone, and that was perhaps the most unique factor of Season 4.
