THE BOYZ just made their comeback with the new song “LIP GLOSS” from their upcoming sophomore album, PHANTASY. It’s a fun, upbeat summer song about wanting to taste that special someone’s lipgloss. The MV features all eleven members chasing after the same girl while on a tropical vacation.

Netizens were disappointed by the casting choice of the female lead being White, especially since the MV was shot on location in the Philippines. They felt it did not represent the Philippines accurately and robbed Filipina actresses of an opportunity.

So, netizens questioned the casting choice behind it.

It was not just the female lead, though. Near the end of the music video, after the girl has been hanging out with each member, she leaves with another man. So, a girl approaches and points toward her friend group, implying they’re interested in THE BOYZ. Yet, even the entire friend group appears to be White. The party’s crowd also significantly lacks diversity.

Still, THE BOYZ fans from the Philippines are so happy that the group filmed their music video there. They feel it showcased the beauty of Siargao Island, promoting the country as well as any tourism ad.

What did you think of THE BOYZ’s comeback?
