Recently, HYBE has shared teasers of what fans could expect for SEVENTEEN’s merchandise to celebrate their 9th anniversary.

Putting aside that many CARATs wouldn’t be buying because of pro-Palestine boycotting HYBE, fans pointed out that the design seemed to have no character and took away the core of SEVENTEEN, as they shared other instances.

On May 22, it was announced that the merchandise for the anniversary was necklaces paired with charms for each member. After some confusion, they also matched each charm to the member to give fans a better idea of what to expect.

While there was a general consensus about the “cheap” and “uncreative” designs, netizens shared how it felt like HYBE hadn’t even consulted the members or fans.

Although some of the designs made sense like S.Coups having a cherry, Woozi with a music note, or Wonwoo‘s keyboard key…

Some seemed to make no sense, like Vernon and the UFO, others were taken literally like Dino‘s being a dinosaur (when his animal is an otter)…

In particular, netizens were angry that Mingyu‘s was french fries…

In the past, the idol pointed out how he felt uncomfortable about “potato” jokes being made, which had become common over the last few months. After seeing HYBE use the “joke” for the merch, CARATs were furious as they pointed out that there were many items that could represent the loving Mingyu that he hadn’t shared made him feel uncomfortable.

SEVENTEEN has such a distinct image and identity, but CARATs think HYBE are doing the bare minimum just to get money out of fans.
