“OOMF Is Debuting?!” — Rumored HYBE Survival Show Contestant Is An Ex-Twitter Stan

She even got to dance with Red Velvet once!

While many K-Pop fans on social media have daydreamed about becoming idols, one fan may be making her dreams a reality — and you might know her! One rumored participant on the upcoming survival show R U Next? is catching everyone’s attention because of her Twitter “stan” past.

If you have your finger on the fourth-gen pulse, you’ve probably heard that HYBE sublabel BELIFT LAB is set to launch an exciting new girl group survival show: R U Next? Premiering on JTBC this month, the show promises 22 contestants and 10 episodes of head-to-head K-Pop action.

Following in the footsteps of I-LAND, a separate BELIFT LAB survival show which launched ENHYPEN, R U Next? is said to be composed of seven rounds evaluating different idol skills — from professionalism to star quality.

With the program set to start in just weeks, there are already several potential contestants who are rumored to take part. Among them are trainees like Lee Youngseo from fellow HYBE sublabel ADOR, who was speculated to be part of the original debut team for NewJeans.

One rumored contestant, however, is capturing attention for a completely unexpected reason: she used to be a K-Pop stan on Twitter!

Chanelle | @ru_next_news/Twitter

Chanelle, also known as Chanel, is a 20-year-old Korean-American from Los Angeles, California. Born in June 2003, she’s a fan of both Red Velvet and ITZY, as evidenced by her former Twitter account.

Her former “OOMFs” (short for “one of my followers”) on Twitter say she used to go by the username @midzyluv, paying homage to her MIDZY and ReVeluv identity. However, her account has since been deactivated. Across Twitter, fans have been in disbelief that someone they used to follow on Twitter could be in the running to become a major star.

While many fans on Twitter may not want their online identities to come to light, one of Chanelle’s former Twitter friends describes her as “super sweet,” as well as “nice, funny, and down to earth” — and the no.1 defender of ITZY’s Chaeryeong. According to the user, Chanelle also likes TXT, Girls’ Generation, and ATEEZ

If Chanelle is a contestant on R U Next?, she’ll be competing to follow in the footsteps of “monster rookie” HYBE labelmates NewJeans and LE SSERAFIM.

Interestingly, even if you didn’t follow her on Twitter, you may have seen Chanelle somewhere else before. This potential starlet is no stranger to the stage; she first made her performance debut on JTBC‘s Stage-K. The 2019 show saw teams from around the globe compete to deliver the best K-Pop cover performances, and Chanelle covered Red Velvet tracks along with the rest of Team USA.

After impressing the Red Velvet members with her skills, Chanelle even got to dance with the group on stage. Talk about a successful fan!

It’s clear that Chanelle has talent, leaving girl group fans and her former Twitter followers eagerly hoping that the rumors are true. R U Next? premieres on June 30, so the confirmed list of contestants is expected to drop soon.
