OH MY GIRL member Mimi is currently one of the busiest K-Pop girl group members as a singer and TV personality. Whereas now, she is a star recognized everywhere she goes, an old video that resurfaced showed that this wasn’t always the case.
Mimi became famous in the variety program scene in 2022 when she joined as a member of the popular tvN reality show Earth Arcade, alongside rapper Lee Youngji, IVE‘s An Yujin, and comedian Lee Eun Ji. She is currently in the second season as well.
Audiences immediately loved Mimi for her natural ability to make people laugh—from her unintelligible murmurs to her randomly hilarious guesses while playing games.
Since her success with Earth Arcade, Mimi has appeared in various other programs; for example, she was a panelist for Channel A‘s popular dating reality show Heart Signal 4 and became a fixed MC for a current affairs show on SBS called STAFF ONLY. At the 2022 Asia Model Festival, Mimi won the Rookie of the Year Award in the variety program category.
Although Mimi is getting the recognition she deserves, it wasn’t always like this for her. In the past, she did not always get the spotlight when with the other members of her girl group. In 2015, Mimi debuted with OH MY GIRL as the main rapper, dancer, and sub-vocalist. Since then, she has performed on various stages for their iconic hits such as “Nonstop” and “Dun Dun Dance.”
A 2019 video of Mimi walking to Music Bank resurfaced on social media and brought to attention the days before her fame. The caption on the post said that she was once in a meme showing the sadness of an “unpopular” member.
