Pentatonix Released A Mashup Cover Of BTS’s “Butter” And “Dynamite,” And We’re Obsessed

It was well worth the wait!

American a cappella group Pentatonix has released a cover of another supergroup’s songs. It’s none other than BTS‘s hits “Dynamite” and “Butter!”

Pentatonix is a GRAMMY-winning a capella group from Arlington, Texas, consisting of five members: Scott Hoying, Mitch Grassi, Kirstin Maldonado, Kevin Olusola, and Matt Sallee. They’re most well-known for their viral YouTube covers of pop songs and Christmas albums.

The group, especially members Scott and Mitch, have been fans of K-Pop for a while. They’ve reacted to K-Pop songs online, covered some songs in the past, and Scott once tweeted this (almost a decade ago)…

As the sub-unit music duo Superfruit, Scott and Mitch even collaborated with a K-Pop idol before! F(x)‘s Amber Liu featured on their 2017 song “FANTASY.”

And, of course, Pentatonix covered PSY‘s international hit “Gangnam Style” way back when.

Additionally, a couple of years ago, Pentatonix and TXT talked about the possibility of a collab in the future (we’re still waiting). TXT had previously sung Pentatonix’s original song “Can’t Sleep Love” during an interview, and Pentatonix returned the love by sharing a clip on their social media.

While we might not have gotten that TXT x Pentatonix collab yet, Pentatonix has given us something else pretty great related to another popular HYBE artist, BTS.

We knew it was only a matter of time before Pentatonix would cover BTS. Scott especially has been a die-hard ARMY for years now.

Now, the day has finally come for Pentatonix to release their BTS cover after much anticipation. At the end of July, Pentatonix had posted a poll on Twitter, asking their followers which BTS song they should cover. The choices were between “Dynamite” or “Butter,” and “Butter” actually won by a landslide!

Since then, Pentatonix has been teasing the release of their BTS cover. But to many fans’ surprise, it appeared that Pentatonix decided to cover “Dynamite” despite the poll results.

Scott then addressed the situation and assured the fans that they would still be happy with the cover they decided to go with.

Shortly after that, they released a mashup cover of “Dynamite” and “Butter” to satisfy everyone! However, it was only available to their Patreon supporters. But from the brief clips shared with everyone, fans were anticipating seeing it in its entirety.

Then, yesterday, Pentatonix finally announced that they would be releasing their mashup cover to the public.

Now, it’s finally here! And it definitely lived up to all of our expectations.

Not only did they do the songs justice (their vocals are no joke), the pastel outfits are a nice subtle nod to the outfits in BTS’s “Dynamite” music video too!

It was a pleasant surprise to see Pentatonix cover BTS’s songs, and the wait was well worth it. ARMYs and Pentaholics alike are enjoying the cover, and we’ll probably have this on replay.
