Nearly six months after stepping down from all his shows and schedules following the “Injection Auntie” scandal, he’s officially back, and not everyone is happy about it.

Key was caught up in a controversy late last year after it emerged he had been receiving treatments from a woman known as the “Injection Aunt,” an unlicensed practitioner who allegedly administered IV drips and other procedures to various celebrities. Key claimed he had no idea she wasn’t a licensed doctor, having first met her at a clinic in Gangnam through a friend.

SM Entertainment eventually released a statement after staying silent for over ten days, and Key personally apologized on Instagram. He then stepped down from both I Live Alone and Amazing Saturday, two of the biggest variety shows he was a regular on.

The punishment was significant by any measure. Losing two long-running variety show spots is no small thing in the Korean entertainment industry, where those roles take years to build.

Some fans feel he’s more than paid his dues and that the continued hostility makes little sense at this point. Others strongly disagree.

  • “I guess they won’t be acting all high and mighty like before, calling out celebrities for being full of themselves or saying they shouldn’t end up in the news…”
  • “What does it matter as long as he’s not on TV?”
  • “The people who went hard on him will obviously follow him around on every post just to keep trashing him. So predictable.”
  • “Do you all actually know what he got done? How can you say it’s not a crime? Is it not a crime just because you didn’t get caught? His face has changed so much…”
  • “Has half a year already passed?”

  • “Like it’s some kind of capital crime lol. He stepped down from all those popular shows. Isn’t that taking responsibility? It’s also pretty funny how people act like they’re somebody, going out of their way to say ‘please don’t come back on TV.'”
  • “The defenders are out in full force lol.”
  • “He’s being shameless, full stop.”
