The SEVENTEEN star will officially start his military training on September 16, one day after his fellow group member Woozi. During a recent livestream appearance on Calm Down Man, while talking about his own enlistment, Woozi revealed that Hoshi would be training in Yeoncheon.

I have a friend who will enlist a day after me. He’ll go to Yeoncheon.

While the comment may have sounded ordinary at first, fans quickly realized the significance of Yeoncheon — a region known for its military base near the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) between North and South Korea.

Yeoncheon is home to the Republic of Korea Army’s 5th Infantry Division, also known as the “Key Division.” This division is no ordinary post. It’s a high-alert, combat-ready unit that plays a critical role in defending the GOP (General Outpost) and GP (Guard Post) areas of Gyeonggi Province.

The 5th Infantry Division has a long and storied history, having been founded in April 1948 and actively participating in the Korean War. Today, it remains one of the South Korean Army’s most respected frontline units.

Assignments to the frontlines, especially near the DMZ, are considered some of the most intense and demanding in the military. Soldiers stationed there are expected to maintain a constant state of readiness, often under harsher conditions compared to other non-frontline bases.

The news has understandably sparked concern among fans, who claim it is “hard not to worry” about him.

Despite the concerns, fans continue to send their well wishes Hoshi’s way as the SEVENTEEN star prepares for his enlistment. We all hope Hoshi stays safe and completes mandatory his military duty successfully!
