The announcement of Red Velvet’s Wendy and Yeri parting ways with SM Entertainment has sparked major debate online — particularly among fans of the group.
Since 2023, the members of Red Velvet have been in discussions with SM over their contract renewals. Seulgi renewed her contract in August 2023, followed by Irene in February 2024 and Joy in January 2025. Wendy and Yeri, however, chose not to renew. According to SM, the two will continue to take part in Red Velvet’s group activities, but their solo careers will be managed independently.
