SEVENTEEN’s Main Vocalists Are Coming — New Subunit Debuts Next Month
SEVENTEEN’s two main vocalists, DK and Seungkwan, have formed a new unit and will release their first mini album, Serenade, on January 12th next year.
At midnight on the 17th, DK and Seungkwan unveiled the trailer for Serenade, titled “An Ordinary Love,” on HYBE Labels’ official YouTube channel, heightening global fans’ anticipation for the new release.
The story depicts couples on different paths. It shows DK struggling to hang up a phone with no answer, followed by moments where he and his partner seem to exist in separate worlds within the same space. Objects scattered throughout—withered plants and dried fruit—seem to symbolize their relationship. DK’s monotonous daily life gains new tension through an accidental encounter.
Seungkwan appears as a part-time worker. Seeing a comic brought by a customer, he recalls scenes of past love. While briefly lost in these simple yet warm memories, he hurriedly returns the book but accidentally drops one volume. As Seungkwan rushes after the customer, the comic’s title, “Blue,” intersects with the scene, sparking curiosity about the album’s story.
The album’s Korean title means “a love song sung at night.” DK and Seungkwan express all the stages between meeting and parting through their unique emotional storytelling, creating a winter-themed album filled with sentiment. The new release captures various moments within ordinary love—from boredom and discord to new beginnings—promising deep empathy and emotional connection for all listeners.
DK and Seungkwan have consistently showcased their exceptional vocal skills through Seventeen’s group albums as well as solo tracks and OSTs. Their delicate technique, rich vocal power, and profound expressiveness combined with their distinct vocal tones create a harmony that is expected to herald the revival of a “K-pop traditional vocal duo.”
