SHINee’s Onew To Discharge From The Military Without Special Event

He’s finally returning!

SHINee‘s Onew will finally be finishing his military service and be discharged on July 20. He enlisted for his mandatory service back in December 2018 as the first member of SHINee to enlist. After nearly a year and a half of service, he’ll be officially discharged from the military.

Onew took one of his last vacations before his discharge today, but received order to discharge on the 20th without returning to his unit in an effort to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

SM Entertainment made a statement about his discharge.

It’s true that Onew came out for his last vacation today. In order to prevent the spread of COVID-19, he was ordered to be discharged from the military without returning to his unit.

As the pandemic continues to surge around the globe, the military is taking precautions and ordering all troops who are on their last vacation to discharge without returning to their respective bases.

SM announced that in order to abide by the social distancing standards, they will not be holding a special discharge event for Onew. They explained, “We will not have a special discharge event.

Onew was the first member of SHINee to enlist. Key and Minho who soon followed Onew are expected to be discharged on October 7 and November 15 respectively. Taemin has yet to enlist for his service.
