Legendary Idol Directly Refuses Offers, Triggers Massive Reactions
On September 4, Shinhwa’s Kim Dongwan posted about his struggles with appearing on variety shows on his social media account.

“I wish they’d stop sending offers for variety shows. I don’t have the confidence to make people laugh, and I don’t want to share my true story publicly. Bringing up my past only hurts me. Can’t I pretend to be happy and successful and live quietly? I wish they’d leave me alone.
If I’ve made excuses about my schedule three times, please know when to stop. Of course, you guys are just doing your job.”

However, fans wanted to see more of Kim Dongwan on shows. When fans asked what kind of shows he would like to do, he responded, “I like things that produce results through my efforts, such as performances, drama, and home shopping.”
He also addressed the provocative editing and headlines demanded from variety shows, “I think they want depression, poverty, loss, and pornography these days. I guess that’s just the way things are.”
When asked, “I guess there is no one worth casting,” he agreed, “Bingo. I don’t want to do it because I can see that.”
However, when a fan asked if there would be a second season of Shinwhwa Broadcast, he replied, “Of course! The members will make it fun!”
Most K-netizens supported his decision and felt it was right to cut off the offers directly.

- “I’m sure there were so many things he experienced while appearing on various shows.”
- “I like that he is cutting the offers himself.”
- “He’s making a controversy for himself.”
- “He’s done enough if he’s refused three times. Why is everyone making a fuss? He probably made this statement knowing it would spread throughout the industry.”
- “I think it’s better that he said something directly so that the industry will know not to send offers to him.”
- “I can see why he thinks like that…I mean, look at Lee Minwoo and the broadcasts he’s doing…”
