On June 1, EXO‘s Chen, Xiumin, and Baekhyun shocked fans when it was revealed that they had filed a lawsuit against SM Entertainment to terminate its contract. It was also revealed that the idols had asked for a full accounting of their activities in March but have yet to receive them.

In response, SM Entertainment released a fiery statement in which it accused another agency, Big Planet Made, of trying to poach its artists from them. The agency alleged that Big Planet Made had caused a rift between the idols through rumors and misinformation.

Big Planet Made, however, has denied all allegations and revealed that MC Mong had stepped down from his role last year and currently has no ties with the company. The agency also revealed it had never met with the EXO members.

Hello. This is Big Planet Made. We are here to tell you the truth that is different from the press content about our company released today (June 1).

Firstly, Big Planet Made has never met the artists that were mentioned, and we have never exchanged any opinion or discussion about exclusive contracts.

Secondly, MC Mong is not our company’s internal director; neither has he ever concerned himself with any position, job, or operations of our company.

Third, it is true that we have received a certification of contents (a demands letter) under the name of SM Entertainment’s CEO. Whatever their intentions are for linking our unrelated company to their internal contract situations, we express our regret regarding it and will take strong legal action should their claims continue.

Netizens lambasted SM Entertainment for allegedly using the media to make it seem like the agency had played a role in the members’ departure. Fans also accused how the label was hiding behind MC Mong’s bad image to avert fans’ attention from the fact that they had not given a full accounting of the idols’ payments and activities upon request.

  • “MC Mong stepped down from Big Planet Made, so why is his name being brought up?”
  • “Whether MC Mong is involved or not, just reveal your accounting. Why are you engaging in media play instead of revealing it?”
  • “Who cares? Just open up your book. They asked for it seven times, but you ignored them. Why? This media play is just, LOL.”
  • “Wow, but their media playbook has never changed, LOL. This is like Deja Vu.”
  • “They just need to open their books.”
  • “So just provide a full accounting, LOL. You guys are in this situation because you didn’t.”
  • “Hey, open up your book. You guys are funny.”
  • “Why is their media play so corny?”
  • “They are so great at playing the media (sarcasm) LOL. Doing this will only benefit SM, right?”
  • “Look at them playing the media by using MC Mong’s bad image. You guys are transparent AF.”
  • “Don’t you guys just need to provide an accounting of the payments?”
