“Someone I Can’t Live Without”: BTS’s V Defines His Relationship With Jimin

“Once we saw how we made up for each other’s deficiencies, we came to see each other with even more respect and admiration.”

In the newly released book, “Beyond the Story: 10 Year Record of BTS,” V, one of the septet’s members, has opened up about his relationship with fellow member Jimin. The friendship between these two idols, which has been affectionately termed “VMin” by fans, is undeniably one of the most endearing dynamics within BTS.

V takes us back to the origins of their song “Friends,” a track that beautifully encapsulates the unique bond he shares with Jimin. According to V, the inception of the song came from their shared desire to collaborate. Despite their starkly contrasting personalities and work ethics, both found common ground in their passion for music and performance.

The song, V shares, emerged from the simple idea of creating a song that captured their shared experiences, “You and I have lots of stories together, and we’re the same age, why don’t we just make a song out of that, just as friends?” Jimin suggested, an idea that V instantly resonated with.

V opens up about the stark differences between them during their trainee days, with Jimin being desperate for their debut while he himself had a more laid-back attitude. Despite these differences, they came to understand and respect each other’s unique attributes, with V admiring Jimin’s unwavering commitment to give his best on stage. This realization led to a deeper understanding of each other and an appreciation for how they compensated for each other’s shortcomings.

It’s just so fascinating to me, that complete opposites can be like, ‘Wow, we really don’t go together,’ but once we saw how we made up for each other’s deficiencies, we came to see each other with even more respect and admiration.

This heartwarming narrative of acceptance and mutual respect might sound like a cliché plot straight out of a movie, but for V and Jimin, it’s their reality. The global recognition of “Friends” as an anthem of their friendship stands as a testament to their profound bond.

In one particularly touching quote, V defines his relationship with Jimin, sharing, “Originally, me and him fought so much … but because we fought so much, later, he turned out to be someone I can’t live without (laughs).” The candid confession reveals how their arguments and differences only strengthened their friendship and made them indispensable to each other.

The members’ journey, especially V and Jimin’s dynamic, is a powerful testament to the fact that embracing differences (not erasing them) is the key to fostering deep, meaningful relationships. This bond has undeniably contributed to BTS’s cohesion and their continued success as a group.
