Son Yeon Jae sues internet trolls for libel

Son Yeon Jae, a former South Korean rhythmic gymnast, has decided to sue against those who sent her hateful comments online.

On March 4, Son Yeon Jae announced her official retirement, ending her 17-year career as a rhythmic gymnast. After her agency Galaxia SM posted that she was retiring and will not be participating in the Moscow Grand Prix this year, some online users responded with hate.

The police reported on March 24 that Son sued against 45 online usernames for libel. Since her retirement, Son has received many hateful comments about her looks, and some even spread rumors that she was involved in ‘Choi Soon Sil Gate’, a major South Korean political scandal surrounding the ex-president Park Geun Hye.

“Although there were many people who posted insulting comments online, we are only suing the ones that went too far.”
