Song Hye Kyo Reported To Join Park Bo Gum In New Drama “Boyfriend”

The drama is set to air near the end of this year.

Song Hye Kyo was reported to have joined the cast of Boyfriend as the female lead, co-starring the male lead Park Bo Gum.

Park Bo Gum has already confirmed his appearance.

An insider revealed that Song Hye Kyo and Park Bo Gum were cast as the main leads for Boyfriend, a story about a woman who seems to have it all and an average man who seems to have nothing.

Song Hye Kyo’s character, Cha Soo Hyun, is a divorced mother who comes from a wealthy family. She was forced into an arranged marriage by her mother, who sacrificed Cha Soo Hyun’s happiness for her husband’s career. However, Cha Soo Hyun’s wealthy husband soon leaves her and their child.

Park Bo Gum’s character, Kim Jin Hyuk, is an average man who works various part-time jobs while applying to various companies. After being rejected by multiple companies, he goes on a trip abroad where he meets a certain woman.

The drama aims to debate whether it is more difficult to abandon your name and family or to forgo living the standard lifestyle that everyone seems to strive for. The story will discuss this through the story of a man and a woman who seek to live a completely different life than they have now.

The drama is also gaining a lot of attention as it would become Song Hye Kyo and Park Bo Gum’s first drama since their respective 2016 hits, Descendants Of The Sun and Love In The Moonlight.

It would also be Song Hye Kyo’s return to screen since her marriage to Song Joong Ki, who also happens to be a very close friend to Park Bo Gum.

It appears whether Song Hye Kyo will confirm the casting or not will be announced by this week. The drama staff announced that they aim to begin pre-productions very soon and the drama will probably air near the end of this year.

“We will decide the cast list within this week. We’ll then cast the minor roles and go straight into script reading, followed by the start of filming. Whether the drama will air on network or cable channel will depend on the cast list. The drama will broadcast at the second half of this year.” — Drama Staff
