“Squid Game” To Be Made Into A Real-Life Game Show, And You Can Apply Now
Even though the second season of Squid Game was only just recently announced, Netflix has even more plans in mind already for the hit series!
The show is going to be made into a reality game show called Squid Game: The Challenge, in which 456 contestants from across the globe will compete against each other in a series of games until one of them is crowned the winner of $4.56 million USD, which is the biggest cash prize offered in TV history.
A trailer for the show was released just a couple of hours ago, though it doesn’t share much yet about the specifics of Squid Game: The Challenge, such as what games will look like or how the eliminated contestants will be taken out of the show (presumably not murder).
Netflix’s vice president of unscripted and documentary series, Brandon Riegg, made this public statement about the show and the creator of the original Squid Game series, Hwang Dong Hyuk:
We’re grateful for his support as we turn the fictional world into reality in this massive competition and social experiment. Fans of the drama series are in for a fascinating and unpredictable journey as our 456 real world contestants navigate the biggest competition series ever, full of tension and twists, with the biggest ever cash prize at the end.
— Brandon Riegg
While the original show is, of course, a Korean series, showrunners are looking for English speakers across the globe to participate. In fact, you can already apply to be on the show now by going to the link provided in the teaser! There are some requirements, such as being at least 21 years of age, but otherwise it seems pretty open to the public.
So, will you be applying to participate in a real-life Squid Game?
