The controversy was sparked when, in a viral video call, a fan stated they saw Hwarang at a club with other idols. The fan stated that Hwarang went to clubs with MIRAE‘s Junhyuk, YOUNITE‘s Hyunseung, Golden Child‘s Bomin, and TNX‘s Hyunsoo. During the video call, Hwarang admitted to the allegations but claimed that he did not do anything bad at the clubs and was not “fooling around” with girls.

As the controversy reached a fever pitch, Hwarang’s agency, Yuehua Entertainment, released an apology on the idol’s behalf.
Hello, this is Yuehua Entertainment.
We would like to inform you about the private life issues surrounding our artist, Hwarang, that have been spreading on social media.
We sincerely apologize for causing concern to the fans who were worried over Hwarang’s actions.
The contents that are circulating on social media are different from the truth, however Hwarang is very remorseful about visiting the club.
He has promised not to repeat this behavior and both Hwarang and the agency will pay special attention so that this does not happen again.

The apology has since been met with mixed reactions. While some criticized the idol for going clubbing, others felt the apology was entirely unnecessary.
- An adult apologizing for going clubbing in 2024, lol.
- I’d understand if he was apologizing for hitting on girls at the club or on the street, but there is no need to apologize for just going to the club.
- Looking at the clip, it seems he isn’t being criticized for just going clubbing.
- He doesn’t need to understand, but if my idol went clubbing, I’d quietly stop being a fan.
- Huh? I thought it was cute at first, but it is a bit of a turn-off. The fan who spread the video is obviously doing this maliciously, so that pisses me off. I think the label had no choice but to apologize because the fan, who grabbed the other idols by their hair.
- Huh? But he’s an adult…
- I was wondering what he did wrong to apologize, and I was pretty taken aback. Going clubbing isn’t great, but apologizing for it is overdoing it.
