The BBC puts the spotlight on CL and PSY’s K-Pop domination
British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) had the chance to hear about CL‘s pursuit of debuting in the States, PSY‘s disappearance from the American music scene, and Scooter Braun’s impression of CL.
In an article that was published on June 2nd, CL shared that, “I grew up listening to English bands and American pop,” and “Now that I’ve been an artist in Asia for eight years, I feel like challenging a new crowd. I definitely have a long way to to go, but I feel like I have the right people around me, a good team.”
Scooter Braun also shared as to why he signed the singer into his management agency and expressed that, “I first saw CL perform with 2NE1 in Seoul at one of Psy’s concerts… We were extremely impressed with her stage presence,” hence his participation in helping her make her debut in the United Statements.
Currently, CL is receiving continuous support from Scooter Braun as well as talents like Diplo and Skrillex, while Moschino’s creative director Jeremy Scott considers the singer as his muse. CL is well connected within the entertainment and fashion industry and even Karl Lagerfeld of Chanel and Fendi believes that “This year (CL) will help K-pop take over the world.”
As for PSY who is also under YG Entertainment, there has not been much news about his US debut after his viral tracks “Gangnam Style” and “Gentleman.” PSY was making and estimate of $55 million in the States, but he is currently making a similar amount in the Chinese music industry. The push for PSY into the Chinese market sparked when PSY collaborated with world renowned pianist Lang Lang at the QQ Music Awards in March. YG told BBC that “Chinese fans love his music and the song” and “It topped [all the] Chinese music charts.”
