Top Actor Confesses He Was Born Into A “Golden Spoon” Family
Popular actor Yoo Yeon Seok recently revealed his family background, admitting that he was born into privilege, or what the Korean society calls a “golden spoon” household.
On October 6, KST, the actor appeared as a guest on the popular YouTube show Pinggyego. While in conversation with the hosts, he started talking about his family. He shared that his family had a quirky tradition, inspired by the movie Dances with Wolves, where all family members created funny nicknames for each other.
My mother would go to bed early and then wake up suddenly at 10 or 11pm for a late night snack. That’s why we called her ‘Midnight Meal.’ My father liked to have drinks with his friends, so we called him ‘The Soju Drinking Professor.’

While Yoo’s revelation drew laughter from the rest of the room, host Yoo Jae Suk got curious and asked if his father really was a professor. The actor responded, explaining that his father was a professor of engineering, and his mother was a painter.
Yoo Yeon Seok also talked about growing up in the Gangnam 8th school district of Seoul, a highly prestigious neighborhood, which further reflected his privileged upbringing.
This, however, wasn’t Yoo’s first time revealing his family background. Last May, while appearing on another variety show, he had talked about his father’s occupation, and had even revealed that his older brother was a math instructor.
Yoo Yeon Seok’s “golden spoon” background has left many viewers amused.
