Top Korean YouTubers Reveal How Much They Really Earn
On the latest episode of Lanlife, South Korea’s top YouTubers “Great Library (대도서관)”, “benzz (밴쯔)”, “Yumdaeng (윰댕)”, and “ssinnim (씬님)” came on set to share a behind-the-scenes glimpse of what it really means to be a YouTube content creator.
According to “Great Library”, the new “dream job” on the rise for many South Korean elementary school students is being a YouTube content creator, with the reason being an enormous earning.
“I was at a lecture for elementary school students. I asked them why they want to become YouTubers and they all said MONEY!” — Great Library
So, how much do these Korea’s top YouTubers make per year? Host Lee Young Ja suggested they reveal their previous year’s earnings so the viewers could get a sense of what makes a “creator” such an appealing job.
“Benzz”, who runs a “Mukbang (먹방, food eating video)” channel with 2.5 million subscribers, revealed that in 2017 he made close to $900K USD.
Viewers love watching him trying out different menus, in portions that is only possible for “benzz”!
Popular beauty YouTuber “Ssinnim”, with 1.4 million subscribers, claimed she also made around $1 million USD last year.
The legendary gaming channel owner “Great Library” confirmed he made up to 1.5 million USD during the 10 out of 12 months in 2017. His channel averages 1.7 million subscribers.
“Great Library” is actually considered one of the pioneers to have paved the road for other YouTubers in Korea. Since his debut in 2002, “Great Library” has been a leader in the content creator industry.
“Yumdaeng”, who is actually married to “Great Library”, earned $400K from her talkshow / radio type broadcasts on her YouTube channel of 860K subscribers.
“[My husband and I] spend a lot of what we earn on running the business. So our net profit probably isn’t actually that high.” — Yumdaeng
The numbers revealed by these top YouTubers dropped all the viewers’ jaws.
“Looks like times have changed. “Getting attention” is the best way to make money now. Even Instagram “influencers” make tons of money…”
“Wow. I don’t know what to say… but I do need a drink.”
“Good for them! Their broadcasts are unique and fun, they deserve good money.”
