Veteran Singer’s Unexpected Reason For Hating BLACKPINK Rosé And Bruno Mars’ “APT.”
Radio Star aired the candid thoughts of Seol Woon Do about Bruno Mars and BLACKPINK Rosé’s song “APT.”
On the 25th episode of MBC entertainment show Radio Star, Seol Un Do shared updates on his activities as a composer.
Kim Gook Jin asked, “Seol Woon Do, a singer of 44 years, have you found a way to continue even longer?” Seol Woon Do, replied, “K-Pop is loved worldwide right now. There’s no law against our K-Trot also being loved globally. So, I’m trying to create songs that fit the times.”
He continued, “So I started experimenting. I gave songs to a few juniors. The juniors liked them, and the companies liked them too. So I’m giving out many songs now.”
Jang Do Yeon asked, “What’s your most successful song?” Seol Woon Do mentioned Lim Young Woong’s “My Starry Love,” saying, “That one now has over 70 million views.”
Notably, Seol Woon Do even tried to communicate with BLACKPINK’s Rosé that day. He said, “Honestly, I had complaints about the song ‘APT.’ I like Yoon Soo Il’s ‘Apartment’ song, and we’ve sung it a lot. But times have changed. It’s no longer the era of apartments; it’s the era of officetels.”
Seol Woon Do explained, “Nowadays, there are many singles. Economically and lifestyle-wise, living in an officetel suits singles better than apartments. Do you know how many singles there are in Korea? Now I’m totally into Seol Woon Do’s song ‘Officetel.’ Our music won’t develop if we keep singing only about ‘apartments.’”
He appealed that he gave the song “Officetel” to his son, saying, “Singles nationwide went crazy over it. This is a song for us.”
At this, Kim Gook Jin remarked, “They went crazy, but why don’t we know about it?” delivering a blunt comment. Later, Seol Woon Do was asked to sing a line of “Officetel” but couldn’t recall it, which brought laughter.
