Will Taeil’s Prison Sentence Change? Former NCT Member Will Appear in Court Again In September
Former NCT member Taeil is once again heading to court, this time for an appeal trial. His upcoming hearing has finally received a date, leaving many to wonder if the former idol’s sentence will change.
On September 17, the Seoul High Court is scheduled to hold the first appeal session for Taeil, who was convicted earlier this year on charges of aggravated quasi rape.

He was accused of assaulting an intoxicated woman alongside acquaintances in June 2023. Under Korean law, aggravated rape applies when a weapon is used or when two or more perpetrators target someone who is unconscious or unable to resist.

In the initial trial, Taeil’s legal team admitted to the charges but claimed the act had not been planned. Despite the defense, the court sentenced him to three years and six months in prison. He was also ordered to complete a sexual violence treatment program, have his identity disclosed to the public, and was banned from working in institutions related to children or teens for five years.
Before the sentencing, Taeil said in his final statement that he would treat leniency as “the very last chance” of his life. However, the court did not accept his plea, and he was taken into custody immediately after the ruling.
With his appeal trial now approaching, attention is on whether the court will uphold the initial ruling or lessen his punishment.
