On January 22, Jennie made her highly-anticipated studio album announcement, marking the first full solo release since debuting.

Jennie had fans very excited as she shared what fans could expect, including some collaborations with huge artists.

While many fans were truly excited about Jennie’s solo announcement, it led to a lot of backlash towards YG Entertainment. As the members left the company for solo activities, YG became the center of criticism as each member started to announce their promotions and plans.

After the announcement of Jennie’s album, netizens shared their anger at YG for many reasons. Some pointed out that YG was holding them back as the members have released more solo songs in total compared to BLACKPINK’s entire discography since debuting in 2016.

The discourse around YG Entertainment’s treatment of BLACKPINK has become an even bigger topic of debate since the members started their solo endeavors under different companies.
