On January 18, rumors of former HIGHTLIGHT‘s Yong Jun Hyung (also known as Junhyung) and HyunA dating spread like wildfire following the pair sharing a photo holding hands and HyunA’s comments on her post.

The two idols have known each other for many years as members of K-Pop’s second generation and have even collaborated musically.

However, with the recent news, Yong Jun Hyung’s history and direct involvement with the Burning Sun scandal have become a topic of conversation.

On November 24, 2018, a man named Kim Sang Kyo was reportedly assaulted at the Burning Sun, a Gangnam club owned by ex-BIGBANG‘s Seungri, after he stepped in to help a woman who was being sexually harassed. Following this altercation was a series of investigations into Burning Sun and Seungri that unveiled a web of interconnected crimes, including gambling, drug distribution, and sexual assault.

One of the aspects of the Burning Sun Scandal that shocked netizens the most was the exposure of group chats where secretly taken illegal sex videos were shared by its members. Jung Joon Young was identified as one of the most active participants in the chats, but Choi Jonghoon, Lee Jonghyun, and Jun Hyung were also involved.

Investigations into this particular part of the scandal soon followed, with Jung Joon Young and Choi Jonghoon being charged for the illegally taken videos and gang rape.

Jun Hyung was initially accused of being a part of the chats in an exposé, which he denied.

HIGHLIGHT’s Yong Junhyung Denies He Is Other Singer In Hidden Camera Chatroom

Later, Jun Hyung clarified his involvement with Jung Joon Young, saying that the other singer had previously sent him videos and was aware of his habit of taking secret videos for years. He apologized for his actions, saying he had participated in an interview as a witness to the ongoing investigation and would depart from HIGHLIGHT.

All of these actions were extremely immoral, and I was very foolish. I treated it as something that is not a big deal, without thinking that it was a crime and an illegal act. It is also my fault for not stopping Jung Joon Young.

Yesterday, I participated in an interview as a witness regarding this controversy. I revealed everything that I know and cooperated with the investigation. While being questioned, I realized exactly what I had talked about in the past, and I was ashamed and felt horrified.

I never participated in something illegal such as taking hidden camera videos or sharing it. In addition, since late 2016, I have only maintained a relationship of simple greetings once in a while with Jung Joong Young. Even though I knew of what was happening at that time, I thought it was not a big deal and was too relaxed. I was a silent observer to this serious problem, where my actions could have led to even more victims.

Yong Jun Hyung’s statement

Jung Joon Young and Choi Jonghoon would go on to receive prison sentences for their crimes, while Jun Hyung would remain out of the spotlight until November 2022, when he released a new album. He has since continued to release music.
