The 3rd-Generation Female Idol Who Got Memed When Quitting Her Group

Boreum left LAYSHA, a third-generation K-Pop girl group known for their risqué live performances, in March 2023. They originally debuted in 2015, and with Boreum leaving the group, three members — Goeun, Chaejin, and Sia — remained. That was until 2024 when Sia left, and Bitna joined. The group’s current lineup is Goeun, Chaejin, Hadam, and Bitna.
While LAYSHA never had a huge following, their provocative stage presence has given them a fair amount of attention over the years, and fans of the group were sad to see Boreum depart.
It wasn’t just her departure that got attention from netizens, however. The way that their label decided to make the announcement has people doing a double-take, wondering if it’s meant to look so meme-y!
In a photo featuring the four members, Boreum’s profile is darkened in a way that makes her look like she’s a locked character in a video game, or that she was eliminated in some kind of competition.
The image was shared on the K-Pop subreddit, where it gained a lot of attention for a relatively small and lesser-known K-Pop group due to the strangeness of the announcement method!

It seemed like several people weren’t even sure if this was a real announcement or just some kind of unofficial edit!

Others found the method that the label used to make the announcement to be a bit shady and passive-aggressive.
