Can’t Speak Korean Yet? Here’s How To Fake It ‘Til You Learn It

DAY6’s Jae reveals why his Korean skills seem better than they actually are.

There are no shortcuts to becoming fluent in Korean, but if you’re looking for a way to fake it until you make it, take notes from DAY6‘s Jae.

In Episode 10 of DIVE Studios‘ How Did I Get Here? series, Jae revealed how good his Korean skills are…not.

When Jae first debuted, he ran into trouble on radio shows because his Korean vocabulary was rocky, but his pronunciation was excellent.

Since Jae’s Korean sounded near-native, the weird things he unintentionally said were attributed to him just being weirdo rather a language barrier issue. Jae’s DAY6 members would try to help him out, but it didn’t make much of a difference!

So, if you want to fake your Korean skills for a while, try perfecting your pronunciation. Fair warning: Jae is living proof that sounding skilled isn’t the same as being skilled. Misunderstandings may arise, so proceed at your own risk, and keep studying!

For more Jae, watch him compete in the finale of 2020’s new K-Pop game show, HWAITING.
