Highly Praised “The Trauma Code” Heartthrob Was Labelled “Worst Actor Of 2024” Just Weeks Ago

Actor Joo Ji Hoon is currently enjoying widespread acclaim for his role in Netflix’s latest hit K-Drama, The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call. But not long ago, he was the center of harsh criticism.
In fact, just weeks before his latest success, he was named one of the worst actors of the year at the 8th Raspberry Film Festival.

The “festival,” which evaluates commercial films released between December of the previous year and November 30 of the current year, surveyed 51 film journalists from major Korean media outlets. Voters selected the worst performances in various categories, including acting, film production, and even on-set behavior.

Joo Ji Hoon ranked third in the “Worst Acting” category for his role in Project Silence. He played Jo Bak — a tow truck driver caught in a dangerous survival situation. While his scenes with the late Lee Sun Kyun were meant to bring tension and chemistry, many critics felt his delivery was over-the-top and distracting.

Eight critics singled him out, saying his exaggerated acting made the film difficult to watch and even made them want to leave the theater. Some questioned how someone with his level of experience could make such an unconvincing performance, while others said his scenes were so jarring that they found themselves wondering what he was doing every time he appeared on screen.

Despite the backlash, Joo Ji Hoon has since turned things around with The Trauma Code, where his performance is receiving glowing reviews.

The drastic shift in public perception highlights just how unpredictable the entertainment industry can be. Whether his latest success will completely overshadow past criticism remains to be seen.
