IU & Park Bo Gum’s New K-Drama Raises Eyebrows With “Daring” Release Schedule

Netflix‘s upcoming South Korean series starring IU and Park Bo Gum has sparked interest with its unconventional release strategy. The K-Drama, titled When Life Gives You Tangerines, will follow a distinctive four-week release pattern starting March 7, breaking away from the streaming platform’s usual approach.

The story follows two main characters as they navigate life on Jeju Island through the changing seasons. Park Bo Gum portrays the dependable Gwan Sik, while IU takes on the role of the free-spirited Ae Sun. Their journey unfolds across 16 episodes, divided into four seasonal chapters.
Rather than dropping all episodes at once or following a traditional weekly schedule, Netflix has opted for a hybrid approach. Viewers will receive four episodes every Friday for four consecutive weeks, with the series running from March 7 to March 28. This decision wasn’t made lightly, according to Netflix executive Bae Jong Byung, who explained that the unique release schedule aligns with the drama’s four-act structure and aims to enhance viewers’ engagement with the story.

The first promotional image from the series has generated buzz among fans. It shows the leads in contrasting outfits — Park Bo Gum in casual athletic wear and IU in more formal attire — hinting at their characters’ different personalities.

The production team’s confidence in the pairing is evident, with Netflix representatives suggesting that viewers might question why these two popular actors haven’t collaborated before. As the March premiere approaches, anticipation continues to build for this seasonally-themed narrative set against the backdrop of Jeju Island.
