Kim Jong Min Reveals He was Laid Off “2 Days & 1 Night”

Kim Jong Min guest starred on JTBC‘s public talk show, Talking Street, and revealed how his slump was the cause of him being laid off.

On the January 18 episode of Talking Street, Kim Jong Min revealed to the public that he had a tough time after he returned from serving in the military under alternative services.

Upon being discharged, he returned to the cast of KBS‘s 2 Days & 1 Night on the same day but felt that he was lagging behind the other members by a long shot. When the second season of the show didn’t fare as well as expected, the production staff announced they had to let him go.

Cha Tae Hyun, another member of the show, heard the news and tried to convince him to try and stay:

“You’re one of the original members, so shouldn’t you stay? Let’s do season 3 together.”

Kim Jong Min was thankful for his words, but revealed on Talking Street that he couldn’t help but feel his pride was shot; however, he later realized:

“They hurt my pride, but I realized the level of my pride is up to me. If I let go of it and start again, then I will be given new opportunities. And it really did become a great opportunity for me.”

With the support of Cha Tae Hyun and his own realizations, he was eventually able to join 2 Days & 1 Night again for season 3.

Kim Jong Min also ended up receiving a Daesang Award at the 2016 KBS Entertainment Awards, after 9 years of participating in multiple variety shows.
