K-Pop Idols Share The Simple Ways To Relieve Stress From Their Careers
In a recent episode of Dive Studios‘ GET REAL, BTOB‘s Peniel, KARD‘s BM, and former Ladies’ Code member Ashley Choi spoke about some of the ways they deal with the mental aspects of their idol careers. BM shared that being around people you’re close to is extremely important.
Being around people you’re chill with, that you’re close to, is really important.

Ashley Choi agreed with BM and shared that at the beginning of her idol career, she didn’t have a lot of friends.
I agree with that 100%. When I first debuted, I didn’t have any friends outside of my group.
— Ashley Choi
Ashley Choi also wasn’t able to converse with people because she didn’t have a phone when she debuted.
We didn’t have phones or anything, so I couldn’t keep in touch with anyone anyways. We did have a secret iPad at home, but that’s different cause we can’t take it around anywhere, and if we get caught, we get in trouble.

Due to her hectic schedule and having no social life, Ashley Choi dealt with a lot of stress in her career.
I remember being so stressed then because I didn’t have a life outside of work. Everything was just work, work, work, and being an idol. I had no social life cause they wouldn’t let us have any social life. We had to get permission to even go to the convenience store. I felt very frustrated and had nothing to take it out on.

However, once Ashley Choi was a couple of years into her career, she was able to finally socialize with other people. After she began socializing and making friends, Ashley Choi relieved a lot of her stress.
After maybe 3 or 4 years into my career, I started meeting friends, like meeting you guys, and that’s when I started socializing. That really relieved my stress. It really helped me mentally, just knowing that I have friends that were in the same position as me too.
— Ashley Choi
Peniel concluded by speaking on how different people will have different ways of relieving stress and agreed with what BM and Ashley Choi said.
Everyone’s going to get stressed. You just need to find how to relieve that stress for good mental health. Like you guys said, it’s definitely important to have good people that you trust around you.
