What (G)I-DLE’s Soyeon Thinks Of Her Past “Legendary Trainee” Reputation

She made headlines before she officially debuted.

Soloist Rain has been in the entertainment industry for over two decades, and in that time, he trained under some of the industry’s leading figures, was a member of a K-Pop group, and built a successful career as a soloist and actor. He’s also mentored fellow artists and founded his own company.

While he was known as a “legendary trainee” himself, with rumors of his dedication and skills reaching some of the top K-Pop companies, including SM Entertainment, he recognized that drive in fourth-generation idol group leader (G)I-DLE‘s Soyeon and asked her about her own “legendary trainee” status.

Rain hosted Soyeon on his popular talk show Season B Season, and together, the two discussed their shared connection with (G)I-DLE’s company CUBE Entertainment, their time as trainees, Soyeon’s interest in fortune-tellers and psychics, and more.

When Rain brought up the subject of Soyeon’s reputation as a trainee, the (G)I-DLE leader humbly denied that she was a “legendary trainee,” though Season B Season production provided multiple media headlines that reported on the impressive idol-producer when she was still a trainee.

Before her official debut, Soyeon displayed her incredible talents through competition programs Produce 101 and Unpretty Rapstar in 2016 and made her solo debut with self-written songs “Jelly” and “Idle Song” in 2017.

While she undoubtedly made a significant impact before her debut, she instead found the “legendary trainee” nickname “so funny.”

Rain shared why Soyeon indeed became a legend, explaining that if she hadn’t been a “legend,” she would have just been a “rumor” who hadn’t debuted.

If things go well, you are a ‘legend,’ but if it doesn’t work out, you just remain a ‘rumor.’
